Challenge

Our task was to support an international company from the consumer services industry (discount codes) in finding appropriate IT specialists in Poland. It is visited by about 10 million people monthly, which proves its great popularity.

The company approached us with a request for help in recruitment, because it had plans to gradually expand the team and release a new product.

One of the processes we were entrusted with was finding a Frontend Developer (at least 5 years of experience, with knowledge of React, Redux and MongoDB). In addition, the candidate had to have at least minimal experience in the Backend area (knowledge of node.js and express.js was required). The presented requirements narrowed down the area of our search. What's more, during the process, candidates with knowledge of React and Node were in high demand on the market and received many offers. Therefore, we had to make every effort to stand out and provide candidates with the best candidate experience and interest in the offer.

    Main challenges:

  • at first, the first stage of the recruitment process was to do a task (homework), which took about 3 hours. This resulted in the resignation of a large number of candidates, senior experience and required skills: Backend (knowledge of node.js and express.js)

  • English min. B2/C1,

  • no option to choose contract of employment (only B2B),

  • residence of the candidate on the territory of Poland,

  • we weren't the only ones working on this process.

Solution

Thanks to our advice, the client decided to introduce an additional option in the process structure, i.e. a longer technical conversation, instead of a task. Thanks to this, candidates who could not devote time to homework had another opportunity to present their skills.

As a result, the recruitment process consisted of 2 stages:

  • The first screening conducted by us - up to 30 minutes;

  • Task (homework) and a technical interview or just a longer technical interview, without homework.

Our search covered the whole of Poland and we focused on people who also had a high level of English language skills.

One of the issues that significantly influenced the success of the recruitment process was the presentation of salary in USD to candidates. The choice of currency is important - according to the latest edition of our report on the IT labor market in Poland, which we published in February 2023, 32% of IT specialists would like to be paid in dollars.

Moreover, the client's special involvement in the process meant that the meetings were held quickly. As an IT recruitment agency, we organized status meetings where we discussed feedback and presented candidates. Thanks to this, all parties, i.e. the client, the candidate and us, knew exactly what to do next and at what stage we were at.

Results

We successfully recruited a Frontend Developer. The success of the process entrusted to us was greatly influenced by the care for efficient communication and feedback, both for the candidate and the client. We also paid special attention to punctuality, so that getting to know the candidates and arranging meetings ran smoothly.

Adding the option of an extended technical interview instead of a task and information about the salary in dollars instead of PLN - this decision had a significant impact on the interest of candidates in the offer.

Our report on the IT job market for 2021, also helped the client and made they confident in the decisions in the context of giving this process to us - an IT recruitment agency in Poland.
